California Mineral Production Reports and Data

Annual Reports of Non-Fuel Mineral Production (2001‑2022)

Values of various mineral commodities produced in 2022, in millions of dollars. This is Figure 2 from the 2022 Non-Fuel Mineral Production report.

The California Geological Survey publishes annual summaries of the state’s mineral resource production exclusive of oil, gas, coal, and geothermal energy. The most recent report covers the 2022 production year.

For 2021, California remained one of the largest producers of non-fuel minerals in the United States. Specifically, California ranked fourth—behind Nevada, Arizona, and Texas—with a non-fuel mineral production value of five billion dollars, accounting for approximately 5.8 percent of the nation’s total. This report discusses production by commodity and summarizes current exploration. Data used in this report are mainly from the Division of Mine Reclamation and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Historical Mineral Commodity Production Records and Data Dashboard (1958-1969)

This section offers access to part of our catalog of historical mineral commodity production records. The records provide detailed annual production data by county. We scanned these records to PDF from original typed and handwritten paper documents created by the California Division of Mines and Geology during the middle of the 20th century. These data are visualized as a map and graphs in our California Historical Mineral Production interactive data dashboard (below). To download the scanned records, proceed to the next section, "Downloading the scanned records."
