The STD678 is a standardized template of your relevant professional experience, education, associations, skills, knowledge and abilities. You may create multiple templates relevant to different jobs for which you are eligible.

We evaluate your education, experience, skills, abilities and knowledge through an assessment, called an Exam. Find all relevant Department of Conservation Exams.

In order to be eligible to apply for a job you must first pass an exam related to that type of job. Each job type is called a ‘classification’. Each classification has an exam. When you review a job you’d like to apply for, you will find what exam is required in order to be eligible to apply. For example, if you’d like to work as a geologist, you’d need to pass an ‘engineering geologist’ exam. Sometimes the exam names and classifications can be confusing, so please contact us with questions.

Exams consist of various testing methods (eg written, oral test/interview, training and experience).

If you pass an exam, you are now eligible to apply for a job. This is called ‘list eligible’.

After you are list eligible, apply for open jobs. Find current DOC job openings

Each job posting has unique information, such as how to apply, who to contact with questions, and what documents mat be required. In addition to your STD678, you could be required to add a resume, transcripts or a writing sample (typically called a ‘Statement of Qualifications’.

Be sure to read the posting carefully prior to submitting. Applications must be received by the final filing date, or, if applying by mail, applications must be postmarked by the final filing date. The completed application is an example of your reading comprehension skills, your ability to follow directions and your attention to detail
