Mine Reclamation - Workshop Information 

The Office of Mine Reclamation (OMR) offers workshops throughout the state. We provide training in the following topics below: 

Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA) Lead Agency Workshop

Description:  SMARA training workshops are designed to help lead agencies understand their roles and responsibilities under SMARA.  This workshop provides an overview of SMARA with tips and techniques for SMARA program success, financial assurance (both estimates and mechanism), enforcement process case study, fiscal issues, as well as interactive Q&A with networking.

Target Audience:  Lead agencies and their consultants

SMARA Annual Inspection Workshop

Description:  This workshop will focus on conducting the SMARA annual inpsections, including observing and measuring site conditions, updating financial assurances, completing the inspection form, and corrective actions/enforcement. This workshop consists of a two day course, one day of classroom training and one day out in the field.

Target Audience:  Designed to train lead agency staff and consultants who conduct annual inspections of surface mining operations.

In-Stream Mining and Monitoring

Description: SMARA Requirements unique to in-stream mining operations including fluvial geomorphology, impacts to infrastructure, streambed alteration agreements and case studies.

Target Audience:  Lead agency staff, consultants and mine operators
